Call for Proposals: Write to Learn 2018

Would you like to be a breakout session presenter at this year’s conference?  We’d love to receive a proposal from you!

The theme for the 2018 conference is “E3: Engagement, Empathy, Empowerment.”  Proposals that address this theme or some aspect of the theme will be given priority, but selections will not be limited to the theme.  Breakout sessions will be 75 minutes long.  You may present by yourself or with a co-presenter (sessions will be limited to two presenters unless you get permission from Willy Wood to have more).

Proposals must be submitted via the online submission system or postmarked (if you’re mailing a hard copy) no later than September 18, 2017.  Selected presenters will be notified by October 12, 2017.

If you are selected to present as a solo presenter or as a co-presenter, your Friday/Saturday registration fee will be $168 (a savings of $100).  If you attend the conference on Friday only, the presenter (and co-presenter, if applicable) fee will be $99 (a savings of $70).  There will be no fee reduction for presenters who attend Saturday only.  If you are asked to present more than one session, your conference registration will be free.  Breakout session presenters must register for the conference unless they obtain a waiver from the conference coordinator, Willy Wood.

The Write to Learn Conference App

Last year, we introduced a mobile app for Write to Learn, and it was a big hit.  The app is back again this year, and it’s even better than before!

The app includes all the important information you need for the conference, as well as fun features designed to enhance your conference experience.  When we’re ready to launch this year’s app, we’ll post information here to let you know how to download it.

Registration

Registration will open in early November.  Stay tuned for more information!

Ticket Exchange

Most years we run a ticket exchange board at the registration desk for those people who change their minds about attending a session for which they’ve signed up.  This allows attendees to turn in the ticket they no longer want and exchange it for a seat in another session.

If there is sufficient space available in all sessions, a ticket exchange board won’t be necessary, and people who wish to change sessions will simply be able to go straight to the sessions they wish to attend.  We will monitor session numbers closely after registration opens and let you know prior to the conference what this year’s procedure will be.

Meals

img_0163If you sign up for Day One (Thursday), lunch is provided as part of your registration fee.  If you sign up for Day Two, both breakfast and lunch are included.  If you sign up for Day Three, breakfast is included.

We do not offer dinner on Thursday night, so you are on your own for that.  On Friday, we do offer dinner at 6:00 p.m., along with an evening keynote speaker (storyteller and best-selling children’s author Carmen Agra Deedy this year) from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m.  You can pay an additional $39 fee for dinner and the speaker, or you can go out on your own for dinner and return to attend the keynote only for an additional $19 fee.  The conference ends at 12:15 p.m. on Saturday.  We do not offer lunch on Saturday.  For those of you attending the Saturday afternoon post-conference session with Harvey Daniels, you will have an hour and a half break during which you can get lunch.

We also offer coffee and hot tea on Thursday morning before the full-day workshops start, and we have coffee and tea available down in the exhibit hall (Windgate) on Day Two and in the lobby on Day Three for those who don’t want to attend the sit-down breakfast.  We also offer refreshments at the afternoon break times on Thursday and Friday.

Weather Policy

The Write to Learn Conference will be held regardless of weather conditions, and no refunds will be given due to inclement weather.  We regret that we must adhere strictly to this policy.

E-Mail Contact Lists

By registering, you give permission to the conference organizers to contact you about conference news in the future.  You also give permission to the conference organizers to distribute your name and contact information to conference attendees and vendors.  If you prefer not to be included in these distributed lists, include a written request with your registration for your contact information to be omitted.

Refund Policy

We will refund your registration fee if the MU Conference Office receives your written request by February 2, 2018.  You are responsible for payment on purchase orders unless cancelled in writing by February 2, 2018.  We will make no refunds after this date, but substitutions are welcome.

Conference Media Policy

Registrants of the Write to Learn Conference agree to allow Educational Solutions International and its official media specialist to photograph or video them in the context of the conference.
